Landscaping, Irrigation & Drainage in Alvin, TX

Alvin holds the United States record for rainfall in a single day. Drainage here is not a nice-to-have.

Landscaping, irrigation and drainage in Alvin, TX

In July 1979, Tropical Storm Claudette stalled over Alvin and dropped 43 inches of rain in 24 hours — still the heaviest 24-hour rainfall ever recorded in the United States. Nobody in Alvin needs convincing that water is the local design constraint. It is the first thing we look at on an Alvin property and usually the reason we were called.

The town itself is a mix: older lots on the grid near downtown with big trees and small yards, newer subdivisions on the edges, and acreage spreading out toward Rosharon and Manvel. On the acreage side, land clearing and rough grading come first and drainage follows the shape of what we cut. In town, it is more often a French drain through a low spot, downspouts tied into a line, and a regraded side yard that stopped shedding years ago.

We also do the pleasant half of the work here — landscape design and installation, sod, irrigation and paver patios. It just tends to go in after the water problem is solved.

Alvin specifics

What we see in Alvin yards

  • Rain that arrives all at once

Gulf Coast storms here deliver inches, not tenths. Systems get sized for volume, and outlets get checked for whether they can actually take it.

  • Acreage and brush

Outside the city limits, lots revert quickly. Clearing, fence-line work and grading are a steady part of what we do around Alvin.

  • Older in-town lots

Mature trees, small yards and original drainage. Hand work and careful routing matter more than equipment on these properties.

  • Irrigation for the dry stretch

The same place that floods in July bakes in August. A zoned system is how an Alvin lawn gets through both.
